I was skeptical about trying this because I've always thought of "toners" and "essence" as an optional, extra step. In the past, I've used alcohol-based toners in an effort to dry out my acne and breakouts, but ended up with more breakouts due to the alcohol compromising my skin barrier (who remembers Sea Breeze days?). Ginseng Essence Water is not that! My skin feels deeply hydrated, it doesn't break me out, and my skin tone is more even looking.
